Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where do I find the Lakes Club Information Booklet?
A: Download the pdf version here ![]()
Q: How old do I have to be to join Lakes Swim Club?
A: Club membership is open to swimmers of any age, provided they can swim 12.5 metres unaided.
Q: I can't swim all that well.. can I still go to swim meets?
A: For safety, a senior swimmer is also in the water with each 12.5 metre competitor. However, if this distance is too far it would be best to wait until you are a little more confident in the water - perhaps some learn to swim classes would help.
Q: What should I bring with me on the first swim night?
A: Togs, cap, goggles and a towel - and if you are under 12, an adult. In winter it is a good idea to bring an extra towel and something to wear inbetween swims.
Q: What should I take to swimming carnivals?
A: Togs, cap, goggles and a towel (or two). A highlighter and pen are a good idea so you can make your swim times in the event book and write down your swim times. Maybe a camera so you can get that 'medal winning' shot!
Q: How much does it cost to join Lake's Swim Club?
A: The Annual Membership fees for 2007-2008 are:
- Club Fee $60 per family
+ Swimming Queensland Affiliation $16 - $41 per swimmer
(depending on whether you are a recreational or competitive swimmer)
Membership does not include the Aquatic Centre cover charge- which is currently $3.50 per club night per swimmer - or any admission charges to swim meets.
Q: Are children well supervised?
A: All Club Members generally look-out for each other and are well aware of the dangers of swimming and there are plenty of diligent adults about. However children 12 years and under MUST be accompanied by a parent or authorised adult.
Q: Can I race at other swimming carnivals?
A: Yes, as long as you are registered as a competitive swimmer – this is done as part of your membership when joining the club.
The Race Secretary will be available on Club Nights to answer questions and to take nominations for swimming carnivals. Check the Swim Meet Calendar for details of swimming carnivals.
Q: Can I be a member of more than one swimming club?
A: No you can only be a member for one club during the season. You are able to transfer your membership from one club to another.
