Allison and Zac Make School State Champs
The Metwest Regional Trials for Primary and Secondary schools were held at Chandler today to select representatives for the Qld Schools State Championships. After solid performances in the pool, Lakes members Allison Masuch (10 this year) and Zac Welfare (12 this year) will join the Metwest State Championship Team for the trip to Caloundra on 28th March. Allison will swim in the 50m Freestyle and is likely to be selected for the Metwest relay team as well and Zac will compete in the 50m and 100, Butterfly events. Coach Caroline Somers said "All of the Lakes swimmers did a great job at the this very competitive meet. It was fantastic to see a lot of PBs and members of the squad getting picked for the state championships." Caroline's own kids, well known to the Lakes team, Chris (16 this year) and Tegan (12 this year), also made it through to the state championships, following in the footsteps of older sister Kristy who was part of the National team a few years back. Lachlan Joins Kristin on Torpedos Team
Lachlan Schotel received some good news today... he has been selected to compete with the Brisbane Torpedos Team going to the Pittsworth Junior Carnival on March 4. Lachlan will join fellow Lakes team mate Kristin Taylor on the junior development team.

St Peters Twilight
St Peters Western Lutheran College was the venue for a twilight meet at the weekend that saw an 18 strong Lakes swim team win 11 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals. Coaches, Ken Glass and Caroline Somers were impressed with their squad's efforts that also included 28 PB times. "Most of the swimmers have been competing in school and district carnivals in the past fortnight in the lead up to the Metropolitan West Schools Regional Championship. The results this weekend show that the Lakes swimmers are well prepared for Chandler." Lakes star of the day was Justin Glass (13) winning four gold from four events and Corey Kulick (10) who took home three gold and a silver medal. View Lakes Team Results

Kayla to Swim Senior Metro Champs
Kayla Clarke will fly the flag for the Lakes Swim Club at this years Brisbane Senior Metropolitan Championships at Chandler on March 1-4. Kayla (15) has qualified to compete in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke events.

School Report - Greenbank Districts
Lakes club members Chloe Glass, Larissa Marsh, Chloe Hillman, Antoinette Jeffares, Keegan Jeffares, Casey McFarlane, Corey Kulick and Zac Kulick all competed at the Greenbank primary schools district carnival last week. Swimmers had to wait until early this week to find out if they had been successful in achieving district selection. Chloe H, Antoinette, Corey and Keegan will now compete as members of the Greenbank district team to compete at the Metwest Regional Carnival at Chandler on 28th February. Zac Kulick (8) was also named age champion on the day.

Kristin Selected for Brisbane Torpedos
Each year Brisbane Swimming Association selects a number of teams to take to various carnivals. Ten year old Lakes Swim Club member Kristin Taylor has been selected to be part of a junior development team going to the Pittsworth junior carnival on 4th March.

Medals Galore at Gatton
Fourteen medals from 22 swims was the final tally for the Lakes team that went to Gatton for the annual WP Kemp Memorial meet. Allison Masuch and Aaron Langdale both won four gold from four starts and Zac Welfare posted three PB times to win 3 gold and 1 silver. Beth Arnold lowered her freestyle time to 35.95sec and took home a gold medal in the process. Ashlee Langdale won a bronze in the breast stroke event and Kali Arnold continued to chip away at her PB times swimming two from two starts.

Junior Metro Championships
Kara and Ellie Colgan were the only Lakes Club representatives at this years Brisbane Metropolitan Championships at Chandler. Both girls qualified to start in three events each for their first Metro championship meet and achieved some PB times. The meet was also Rd 4 of the Brisbane 4th Division Premiership. Jimboomba Cash to Chloe and Larissa
Eleven year old Larissa Marsh and Chloe Glass (pic right) left the short course meet at Jimboomba yesterday with money in their pocket after placing 2nd and 3rd in the Dash for Cash handicap event. Lakes had an 11 strong team of swimmers at the meet including Courtney Cunningham who had a fantastic swimming carnival debut finishing 3rd in the 7yr girls 25m butterfly and 2nd in the freestyle. Dani Taylor (8) won in all four strokes and took home the age champion trophy.
Kristin Taylor (10) broke her own 50m Breastroke club record to win the event. She was 2nd in Backstroke and third in Freestyle and Butterfly. Keegan Jeffares (9) finished the day with bronze medals for all strokes and Chloe Hillman (9) was second in the Breaststroke and 3rd in Freestyle. Kayla Clarke (15) competed in her first carnival as a new Lakes Club member and set huge new PB's. With most swimmers backing up from successful school district swims the day before it was good to see the efforts put in by all swimmers.

School Report - Inala District
The Inala District Primary Schools held their swimming championships on Friday 16th at the Oxley school swimming complex and a number of Lakes Swim Club members have been selected to represent the district at the Metwest Regional Championships at Chandler on 28th February. Lachlan Schotel (pictured), Allison Masuch, Danielle and Kristin Taylor also earned the title of District Champion for their respective age groups.

Memorable Maleny
While a number of the Lakes Swim Team were competing at Chandler, another group headed towards the Sunshine Coast Hinterland to Maleny for their annual Kid's Carnival.The organisers of the carnival included a pool treasure hunt and a dash for cash event as part of the day's programme. Team supporters were looked after too with chef prepared meals on offer throughout the day. The team took home plenty of medals... Danielle Taylor won 2 gold, a silver and a bronze and narrowly missed the age champion trophy for 8 yr girls. Keegan Jeffares (pictured) won gold in the 9 yr boys fly, Aaron Langdale won bronze in the fly and Zac Kulick a silver in the backstroke event and Ashlee Langdale won silver in the 12yr girls breast stroke. Keegan, Ashlee, Antoinette Jeffares and Ellie Colgan also teamed up to win a 3rd place in the 100m relay event at the end of the day.

Zoggs Qld Sprint Championships
The Lakes Swim Club had ten swimmers competing at Chandler on 10-11th Feb and although no medals were won by the team they did not go away empty handed with a total of 13 PB times. Justin Glass swam his fastest time ever in all three events he entered. Lachlan Schotel dropped 4.19sec of his breast stroke time. Both Kristin Taylor and Beth Arnold did a great job to qualify for all four strokes at the meet and also went away with personal best times. Luckiest member of the weekend had to be Allison Masuch. Five minutes after entering the building, her dad Dennis won the lucky door prize, a Zoggs swimming kit packed with all sorts of swimming gear goodies. View Lakes Team results here.

Three Pool Records Set at Corinda
Lakes Swim Team members Dani Taylor and Stephanie Chettle (pictured) set three new pool records at the John Carew Penguins meet on 3rd February. Stephanie won gold in the 11 yr girls 50m backstroke and breast stroke events setting two new records in the process at the Corinda pool complex. Dani won a gold medal in the 50m backstroke in a pool record time and also took home silver in the freestyle and bronze in the breast and fly events. Chloe Glass put in a big effort swimming PB's in all her swims helping to bring the team's total PB score on the day to 20.

Zac Wins Capalaba Gold
Zac Kulick (pictured) swam an impressive race to win a gold medal in the 8yr boys 25m breast stroke event at Capalaba on 3rd February. His team mates, brother Corey and Antoinette and Keegan Jeffares also had a good meet. Unfortunately due to technical problems on the day times were not available.

Lakes at Zoggs QLD Sprint Titles
Ten Lakes Swim Club members will compete in 24 events at this weekend's 2007 Zoggs Queensland Sprint Championships at Chandler. Beth, Stephanie, Kara, Ashlee, Allison, Kristin, Justin, Corey, Lachlan and Zac have made the qualifying time cutoff for the state championship level meeting. All the events are held over 50m in the Long Course pool. View Lakes entries and seed times.

All Apples at Stanthorpe Open
Just two hours west of Brisbane the town famous for its wineries and apples hosted their annual Stanthorpe Open Swimming Carnival last Sunday.
Aaron and Ashlee Langdale with Kara and Ellie Colgan represented the Lakes Club and took away 7 medals and 6 PBs from the meet. Kara was ecstatic with her first ever swimming medal winning a silver in the 200m Free and also in the 50 breast stroke event just ahead of bronze medallist team mate, Ashlee. Aaron (pic below) had a huge day winning silver in the freestyle and breast stroke events and bronze in the back and fly races. His time of 50.71 seconds in the 50m breast event was 1.09 seconds under the existing pool record set in 2001 and a 13sec PB time. Ellie also had a good meet recording 2 PB times and breaking into the 39 sec bracket in freestyle for the first time. View Results

School Carnival Season Starting Soon
Schools that didn't hold their swimming carnivals at the end of last year will be organising a swim meet or taking nominations in the next week in preparation for the district carnivals scheduled for mid February. Most primary schools will compete at district events in the week ending 16th February and secondary schools on the 23rd. Swimmers need to talk to their sports teachers ASAP to confirm details. Even if your school does not hold a swimming carnival, you will be able to nominate and represent your school at the district event. Swimmers from this carnival are selected to represent the district at the Metropolitan West Schools Regional Championships to be held at Chandler on 28th February as a qualifying meet for the Qld Schools State Championships at Caloundra on 28th March.

Busy Weekend Coming Up
In addition to the first Club Meet of 2007 at the Forest Lake Aquatic Centre this Friday night, Lakes Swim Team representatives will attend carnivals at Stanthorpe as part of the Stanthorpe Show weekend celebrations, the John Carew Penguins twilight meet at Corinda and the Capalaba Capers meet at Capalaba. Entry lists are posted on the Event Calendar
