Brisbane Premiership
An enthusiastic team from Lakes competed at the Brisbane Restricted Meet at Chandler on January 27th, Rd 3 of the Brisbane Divisional Premiership, recording 15 PBs on the day. Antoinette Jeffares swam four PBs from four races chopping almost 13 seconds from her combined times. Zac and Corey Kulick also had a great day with three PBs each.

Australia Day at Gatton
Beth Arnold made a great start to the day at the annual Australia Day meet in Gatton winning a gold medal in the 10yr girls 50m Free event. She followed up later in the day with a bronze in the 50m Fly and two 4th places. Allison Masuch continued her good form collecting bronze medals in the 50m Free and Fly events and Zac Welfare also won a bronze finishing 3rd in the 50m Fly for 11yr boys. Coach Caroline Somers was delighted with the team's effort with all swimmers recording at least one PB on the day. View results

Kali (6)was so impressed by her big sister Beth's gold medal win, she spent some time between her races creating this congratulatory work of art which was signed by the rest of the team. (click on image for a larger view)

The Lakes Swim Club sunshade sponsored by the Telstra Swimming Support Fund has been a great asset for the club's swimmers and support crew at events. Lakes members can book the marquee for carnivals by contacting the club's Equipment Officer Warren Keep.

Allison's Silver Haul at Caloundra
Allison Masuch took home 3 silver medals from the Pelican Waters Swim Club annual event at Caloundra this weekend with 2nd place overall in the 9yr girls fly, back and freestyle events. She also swam 3 PBs from the 4 events she entered.
Kali Arnold finished her day off with an amazing 23 second PB in the 6yr girls 50 metre freestyle and fantastic performances were also put in by Beth Arnold, Ashlee and Aaron Langdale, Zac Welfare and Tehnae Findlay at the venue to be used for this years Primary School State Championships at the end of March. All swimmers achieved PBs on the day. View Results
The meet was the first on a busy 2007 calendar for the Lakes Swim team.
Lakes will be fielding a team at the Gatton Australia Day Carnival on Friday 26th and also at the BSA Restricted meet at Chandler on the following day. View Entry Lists

Lakes Swim Squads Train at 3 Venues
Following coach Caroline Somers resignation from Forest Lake Learn to Swim last month, Caroline has announced that she will continue to coach swim squads at the Carole Park Communtiy Pool, a few minutes drive from Forest Lake. Lakes Swim Club members are free to use a coach of their own choice and around 15 members have so far followed Caroline to the new venue. Lakes Honorary Head Coach Ken Glass holds sessions at Forest Lake and also at Park Ridge. Caloundra First Meet for 2007
Ten Lakes Club members (view list) are heading off to Caloundra this weekend for the Pelican Waters Caloundra Swimming Club Australia Day Sprint meet. The meet will be the last opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the 2007 Zoggs Queensland Sprint Championships being held at Chandler on 10-11 February. The Lakes Club is expected to enter its biggest team yet at a state championship level meet with a number of members having already qualified for the meet.

Entries Open February/March Carnivals
Information about a number of upcoming swimming carnivals has been added to the Calendar. Lakes Club member entries usually close about 2-3 weeks before the event takes place and must be lodged with the Lakes Race Secretary, Sharon Taylor before the closing date on the Calendar. If you need more information about any of the events listed, speak to your coach or send an email to Sharon race@lakesswimmingclub.org.au
